Coinciding with the commemoration of the 74th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2019, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta eliminates the entrance fees of museums and tourist destinations managed by the Jakarta City Goverment Tourism and Culture Office.
"Museums are an important part of the nation's historical journey"
Head of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office, Edy Junaedi, said that the policy took effect from 08.00 a.m -05.00 p.m.
"We want the community, especially children, to be more interested in visiting and learning about history," he said, Friday (16/8).
Edy explained, the freeing of the visit to the museum also referred to DKI Jakarta Provincial Governor Regulation Number 63 of 2018 concerning Optimization of Activities and Handling of Visitors in Tourist Attractions on Specified Days.
"The museum is an important part of the nation's historical journey. We want to contribute and facilitate the educational tour of citizens to the museum," he explained.
He added, for other tourist destinations or those not museums there is also a requirement for educational values.
"Many things can be learned, including its relation to art and culture," he said.
