IPGAC Seals Sponsorship Support From Enjoy Jakarta & Indonesia Port Corporation

Enjoy Jakarta will title sponsor next month’s Indonesia PGA Championship for the second year in row, with Indonesia Port Corporation partnering for the first time in presenting role.

Two-time Major winner John Daly from the United States has also confirmed his participation in the event - to be played from March 27 to 30 at Damai Indah Golf – Bumi Serpong Damai.

Adding to the spectacle is the fact that the US$1 million Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship presented by Indonesia Port Corporation, will be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organization and will be the opening tournament of the season for both Tours.

A stellar line up of players from both Tours is expected to enter the tournament which was won last year by Korean Choi Ho-sung.

In the inaugural edition of the event in 2011 Australian Andre Stolz beat Indonesian number one Rory Hie by one shot.

Enjoy Jakarta, the government’s tourism portal, are an enthusiastic and generous supporter of golf in Indonesia and are delighted to be continuing their backing of the country’s richest golf tournament.

“With comprehensive regional television coverage, a world class field and an outstanding venue Enjoy Jakarta’s partnership with the Indonesia PGA Championship reaps huge reward,” said His Excellency, Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ir. Joko Widodo.

“Through this tournament we are able to showcase to the region the wonderful appeal that our nation’s capital boasts and its tremendous value as a golfing destination.”

The event marks the first time the Indonesia Port Corporation, the state corporation responsible for the governance, regulation, maintenance and operation of ports and harbours in Indonesia, has sponsored a golf tournament.

“This tournament provides Indonesia Port Corporation with a great opportunity to promote our services throughout Asia,” said Bapak R. J. Lino from IPC.

“One of our key corporate values is integrity and this is certainly evident by our decision to sponsor the Indonesia PGA Championship, an outstanding sporting event that our country can be proud of.”

Fan favourite Daly will be making his debut in the tournament and thrill the crowds with his trademark power play.

The 47 year old’s two greatest accomplishments are his ‘zero to hero’ victory in the 1991 PGA Championship, and his playoff victory over Italian Costantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.

According to official performance statistics kept since 1980, Daly in 1997 became the first US PGA Tour player to average more than 300 yards per drive over a full season. He did so again in every year from 1999 to 2008, and he was the only player to do so until 2003.

Damai Indah Golf, the brainchild of well-known Indonesian real estate developer and business baron, Ir. Ciputra, consist of two international championship courses in completely different and challenging surroundings: Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) course, located in the West Java satellite city of BSD; and Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) course, located along the Java Sea in North Jakarta.

Among Jakarta golfers the Bumi Serpong Damai is commonly referred to as BSD. It is situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River that is back-dropped by the up-market housing estates of Serpong.

For the third consecutive time the tournament will be promoted by World Sport Group (WSG) who will draw on their vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure an outstanding event is staged.

WSG also promote the Emirates Australian Open, the Thailand Open and the Singapore Open.
