JAKARTA, - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta will hand over the management of Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) to PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) after being revitalized. DKI Provincial Government reasoned, the surrender was so that cultural management was balanced with business and tourism, also to separate commercial activities from culture.
"What is important is that cultural arts activities can develop well and commercial activities are to facilitate cultural arts," said DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan at the University Hall, City Hall, Wednesday (03/07/2019).
According to Anies, while TIM has been managed by the Jakarta City Government Tourism and Culture Agency, tourism business activities have not run well. He hopes that business and cultural activities can be balanced.
"If this can be done, thank God that in the future this can be a pilot. What is the market mechanism, the business mechanism is supportive of cultural activities. We want to do it in TIM," Anies said.
Anies is planning to separate the Tourism and Culture Office.
"One of the main objectives is not to make tourism activities commercially viable. Because tourism is indeed a commercial activity, while cultural development activities are not commercial activities, they can be funded through the benefits of commercial activities," Anies added.
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is planning to revitalize TIM. The plan was stated in the proposed addition of activities in the 2018 APBD Amendment to the Office of Tourism and Culture.
The proposed activity named "Review of Taman Ismail Marzuki Masterplan" amounted to Rp 173,280,500. Management will also be handed over to Jakpro for 30 years after revitalization.
