Pancasila Building

The 1830s neoclassical building is where President Sukarno gave his famous ‘The Birth of Pancasila’ speech on 1 June 1945, a month before Indonesia’s declaration of independence. The Indonesian constitution, which was affirmed in the same building on 18 August 1945, is based on the Pancasila, or the five principles behind the Indonesian state that include: belief in one true God, a just and civilized humanity, the unity of Indonesia, democracy guided by the inner wisdom in the unanimity arising out of deliberations among representatives and social justice for all people of Indonesia.
