The history of Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office (JTCO).  JTCO is never distant from the chronicle of tourism development in Jakarta itself.

Before JTCO was established, the government formed the Jakarta Tourism Supervisory Organization (BAPPARDA JAYA) on February 7, 1967 consequent to the Presidium Decision of Ampera Cabinet no. 103/4TAP/2/66.  It was Bapparda Jaya that originated the existence of JTCO. Although administratively JTCO was established on September 20, 1970, however, February 7 was determined as the commemoration day of JTCO.

Jakarta as a non-oil sector has vastly developed its tourism potentials in the world. It has successfully become the mainstay of foreign exchange as well as  impacts on other cities in Indonesia to improve their own tourism potentials. The government originally formed an organization unit that specially handled tourism in Jakarta. Based on Local Regulations (Perda) no. 3 year 2001, the Jakarta Tourism Office was established, while its Organizational  Structure and Working Procedures are based on Jakarta Governor’s Policy no. 107 year 2001.

With changes made on the bureaucratic system both, at central and regional levels, the organizational structure of the Jakarta government also changed. According to Local Regulations (Perda) no. 10 year 2008 on Regional Organization, the Tourism Office was affiliated with the Culture and Museum Office, and became the Tourism and Cultural Office of the Province of Jakarta.  On the other hand, the Organizational Structure and Working Procedures were regulated by Governor Policy no. 107 of the year 2009.


Vision is a purpose, a goal, or a vast, all-encompassing dream that any organization or individual desires to achieve.  The Jakarta Tourism and Culture Office, in implementing its every duty as the economic executive office in the tourism sector has the following vision, namely to establish:

“Jakarta as a Tourism and Culture Destination at International Standard”

Underlying this vision is the strong commitment of the government of Jakarta, especially JTCO to raise Jakarta to be at par with other big cities in the world as a widely known tourism and culture destination.


If vision is the ultimate aim, then mission means a series of steps that must be taken to reach that aim. The establishment of JTCO itself is to reach this aim. The following is the mission of JTCO :

  • Develop sources and products of tourism and culture.
  • Encourage the empowerment of people, communitites, or any tourism and cultural organizations.
  • Develop the infrastructure of tourism and culture.


  • Increase the promotion and publicity of tourism and culture. 
  • Actualize an accountable, effective, and efficient governance execution on tourism and culture.
